Egyptian Islamic Jihad is a group that originally operated to establish an Islamic state in Egypt but has broadened to generally attack U.S./Israel interests.
Ayman Al-Zawahri stands behind bars in an Egyptian court in 1982 during his trial as one of the masterminds behind the assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat in 1981, the year al-Zawahri - - now al-Qaida's No. 2 - - joined Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
