Definition: LTTE stands for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and many other countries. The militant group was founded in 1976 with the goal of creating a separate Tamil state in Sri Lanka. The LTTE is infamous for pioneering the use of suicide bombings, and used a female suicide bomber to assassinate Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for India's peacekeeping force in Sri Lanka.
