Definition: The Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia -- translated, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia -- is a Marxist-Leninist rebel group. Established in the 1960s, the guerrilla organization operates out of remote jungle and mountainous regions of Colombia with the goal of seizing power through armed conflict with the government. The FARC is also involved in the drug trade and kidnappings, bombings, and slaying opponents. It is labeled a terrorist organization by the European Union, the United States, and Canada.
