Bodies Recovered from Doomed Air France Flight

Sunday June 7, 2009
Considering the distance from shore and the depth of the ocean at the point where the Air France flight is believed to have gone down, it seems like a miracle that five bodies and various personal effects have been recovered since the plane was lost a week ago. But whereas the first two bodies found were male, the ocean has taken such a toll on the remains of the passengers that the gender(s) of the three latest bodies could not automatically be determined. More:

"More bodies could be seen and could be recovered within hours, they added.

...The bodies, along with hundreds of other items, were found floating in water that was between 6,000 and 8,000 meters (4 to 5 miles) deep.

All the bodies and items recovered are confirmed as being from Air France Flight 447, which vanished over the Atlantic early Monday en route to Paris, France, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The items recovered include parts of the plane's wing section and at least two seats from the plane and many more items of luggage, officials said."
