'Final Battle' to Overthrow Thai Government

Sunday November 23, 2008
Demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, protesters descended upon Thailand's parliament. Al-Jazeera has the story:

"Thailand's parliament has been forced to postpone a joint session after thousands of protesters surrounded the building and vowed a 'final battle' to overthrow the government.

Samart Kaewmeechai, the deputy house speaker, said the meeting was postponed because members of parliament could not access the building.

Al Jazeera's Selina Downes, reporting from Bangkok, said the protesters were claiming a minor victory for stopping the session, which they believed was going to discuss key constitutional amendments, despite government denials.

The protesters are vowing to maintain a blockade on the building and fan out to other locations in the Thai capital, including the headquarters of the metropolitan police and the cabinet's makeshift offices in use since the protesters occupied the official Government House offices in late August, our correspondent said."

As far as calls to resign, Somchair says no way.
