Mugabe, Tsvangirai Reach Power-Sharing Deal

Thursday September 11, 2008
This just breaking, but if true -- and if it works out as brokered -- then I suggest that Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai can officially change his name to "The Miracle Worker":

"'(South African) President (Thabo) Mbeki is going to give a press statement but I can say that we have got a deal,' Tsvangirai told journalists as he left the venue of negotiations in the capital Harare on Thursday.

Mbeki's spokesman, Mukoni Ratshitanga, told journalists the president was to make a broadcast late on Thursday on the outcome of the four-day meeting between Mugabe and MDC leaders.

The talks have long been deadlocked over the allocation of executive power between Mugabe and Tsvangirai."

Why should Tsvangirai be congratulated for making a deal with Mugabe? Like in Kenya, the logic is flawed that someone who won an election by fraud is then allowed to be government and the actual winner needs to be happy with second best.
